Meet a Few of AGE Africa’s Scholars
Lesenia Chikho, Form 4 St. Michael’s Girls Secondary: “My goal in life is that I want to be a surgical doctor. Not just any surgical doctor but one who is able to transplant kidneys. Another thing I want to achieve in my life is to help one or two people who are lacking their school fees and other basic needs, as AGE has done for me. To the people of the US I just want to tell you some of the things I like doing here in Malawi. I like playing and dancing. I like studying biology, math and physical science. I also like doing things which are difficult to manage just to test myself and see if I can manage to do things which are very difficult.”
Grace Nicks, Form 4 Nsala CDSS: “I am a girl aged seventeen. I was born in 1993 and I come from a poor family that was not able to assist me in my academic pursuits. When I finish my education I want to be a lawyer otherwise a nurse so that I will be able to help poor families, as well as help the country in development.”
Loveness Wailesi, Form 4 Mulunguzi Secondary: “Everyone in life needs to have a goal to achieve. To me I have decided that when I finish my education I should become a nurse and that’s my goal. I have chosen this goal because I want to be independent in my life, I want to save lives and counsel youth so that one day they should become somebody. I have a role model who makes me put much effort into my studies. I work hard in science subjects (like physical science, biology and math) and I am motivated by knowing I will achieve my goal and one day will go to a college called Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN).” [KCN is Malawi's best known and most rigorous nursing school]
Angella Cecil Kasanga, Form 4 St. Michael’s Girls Secondary: “In my life I have some goals to achieve, and they are: 1. To make sure that I do not have a boyfriend until after I am finished with school. 2. Always believe in God. 3. To be a surgical doctor. This is the most important thing in my life. I always make sure that I work hard at school so that in the future I will get the opportunity to work as a Doctor so that I can save the lives of people who die due to lack of quick help. I would also like to be a doctor so that I can save some money and help my sisters and other people. I also like reading novels, playing football, chatting, eating and if the chance arrives, watching films.” [Angella was ranked third in her class in the 2010-2011 school year].
Immaculate Mlauzi, Form 4 Mulunguzi Secondary: “Although my life has been hard, I want to become a professional nutritionist because I have hope that with the assistance of AGE Africa that I can go further with my education. I want to be the first educated child in my family. I decided to become a professional nutritionist because of the rapid deaths I have seen due to malnutrition, nutritional disorders and misconceptions about food. My main aim is to work hand in hand with the World Health Organization’s nutritional department. I promise to work hard and make use of the money you’ve paid for my fees. I will fulfill my goals!”
Catherine Martin, Form 4 Providence Girls Secondary: “When I finish my education I want to be a nurse because I take courage from those that want to help their patients and their parents as well. I am good at, and I like Biology, Mathematics, Geography, English and Social Studies, because I know that without doing well in biology, one cannot be a nurse. I want to share with others that they should also have the courage to do well in class, so she can achieve her goals. Education is the key to many problems one can face in our lives, so we need to work hard in our studies in order to achieve our goals.
